Jonathan Weng is a Vancouver-based student, biomedical innovator, and global health advocate with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in science, healthcare, and community service. He is committed to improving access to care in underserved communities, with a particular focus on oral health as a key component of overall well-being.
His interest in healthcare extends beyond academics into clinical practice. Jonathan holds both an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification in Canada and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification in the United States, with hands-on experience in patient assessment, vital sign monitoring, and emergency care. Through humanitarian work in Kenya and Peru, he has applied these skills in real-world settings, where he recognized significant gaps in preventive care, especially in oral health and hygiene education.
Motivated by these experiences, Jonathan initiated community-based health efforts, including a grassroots oral health campaign in Kenya focused on improving hygiene awareness and preventive practices among children and families. He continues to expand this work through partnerships and education, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and disease prevention.
Jonathan developed a Modular Solar-Powered Telemedicine Device for use in resource-limited settings. Tested on over 60 participants, his research demonstrated its accuracy and reliability, reflecting his ability to integrate scientific research with practical healthcare applications.
Jonathan has also published research in international journals on public health topics and authored several books, including Understanding Cancer Biology and Global Health Perspectives, promoting prevention, patient education, and health equity.
As the Founder of the Youth Advocates for Global Health Association (YAGHA), he has organized international webinars featuring healthcare professionals, reaching over 26,000 participants worldwide. He also demonstrates leadership through mentoring students and coordinating global service initiatives.
Jonathan aspires to pursue a career in dentistry, with a focus on preventive care, community oral health, and reducing disparities in access to care. His long-term goal is to contribute to a more equitable healthcare system through clinical practice, research, and public health advocacy.
